Bo Derek: Why my unconventional life led me to decide against having kids

Bo Derek, 66, has spoken up about why she decided not to have children.

The actress, best known for her performance in “Bolero,” revealed that her unique and turbulent upbringing made it difficult for her to imagine becoming a parent.

Derek emphasized her conviction that children need the chance to have two committed parents. However, she recognized that her personal life was too unpredictable to provide the steadiness needed to raise a child. “There were times I wouldn’t even have a dog because my life was so cr:azy, let alone a child,” says Derek.

Surprisingly, Derek never intended to be an actress. She had envisioned a more relaxed future, perhaps working in a surf shop. However, when the opportunity to enter the entertainment world presented itself, she was overwhelmed. Despite obtaining tempting offers, Derek declined and decided not to pursue a career as an actor.

Derek was formerly married to actor John Derek, and they were together from 1976 to 1998. Since 2002, she has been in a committed relationship with actor John Corbett. The couple has no plans to have their own children. However, Derek did suggest the prospect of adoption in the future. She believes that adopting a kid is within their reach and worth considering.

The couple has not rushed into marriage, and starting a family has not been a topic of discussion with them. Derek stated in an interview with Fox News that, while establishing a young family and creating a new family tree branch is a significant commitment, it has not yet been a part of their lives.

When asked about their relationship, Derek described it as amazing, noting “attraction” and “comfort” as the main factors that attracted them together.

She also praised John Corbett’s ability to make her laugh and his upbeat, cheerful nature. According to Derek, their relationship is growing and making them feel at home gradually.

Bo Derek’s decision not to have children is entirely personal, inspired by her unconventional lifestyle and desire for stability. While she feels that two devoted parents are essential for children, she admits that her own circumstances make it difficult to provide that stability. Derek and John Corbett continue to enjoy their devoted relationship without the strain of starting a family, leaving the door open for future adoption.
