Darci Lynne doesn’t need her puppets to pull off her ventriloquism Act.

On October 8, the America’s Got Talent Season 12 Winner performed a super cool rendition of one of her original songs, “After Midnight” at an open mic at The Pitch Meeting music venue in Nashville, Tennessee. The twist? The 19-year-old pulled it off completely without moving her mouth, putting her expert ventriloquist skills to the test!

The song started out with some bluesy keyboard notes. “I hope I’m not still rusty…” she said before the performance. (Spoiler alert: she totally wasn’t!)

“She and the girls burnin’ the midnight oil / out on the town, Saturday night soil / You showed up in boots with bad intentions / lookin’ like she never learned her lesson / They locked eyes when the clock struck twelve / by now she should know herself,” Lynne started singing the song, annunciating the words perfectly while keeping her lips completely still.

Then, the chorus launched into a true rock and roll groove. “Mama, she always told me / nothing good happens after midnight / regrets are better kept in the dark / Darlin’, she’ll be wrong about you / and all your friends will be right / mama, she always told me/nothing good happens after midnight,” Lynne sang with a big grin on her face, and the crowd went wild.

That same night, Lynne also sang a rendition of “After Midnight,” while this time moving her mouth completely. “I love music, and I wanna share that part of myself. Seven years ago, I went on America’s Got Talent Season 12, and won,” she explained to the crowd.

Then, she did another badass performance of the song, this time accompanied with twangy guitars and upbeat background vocals.

Lynne is no stranger to singing badass rock and roll tunes. On September 8, she posted an epic cover of “Trouble” by Elvis Presley, which she was inspired to sing after she watched the 2022 biopic Elvis starring Austin Butler.

Darci Lynne on what winning America’s Got Talent has taught her

In 2019, when Lynne was venturing on her Darci Lynne and Friends: Fresh Out of the Box Tour, she spoke to The Oklahoman. In the interview, she opened up about how far she’s come since her AGT days.

“Going on AGT, I just really wanted to inspire others to try ventriloquism because it’s such an old art. I wanted other people to try it, and I ended up meeting that goal – because these tours and these kids are living proof of that,” she told the outlet. “I see lots of kids bringing their puppets to the shows. And some of them will come back to meet and greet and I get to meet them, I get to meet their puppets, and they say that I inspired them to do it. So, it’s really awesome to see that.”
